RECAP OF JANUARY SEMINAR.
from Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun.
Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari wrote about the philosophical concept of the Rhizome- in books Capitalism and Schizophrenia (1972–1980), in which all thinking is interpreted in its multiplicity. Now, you might have felt like what you have experienced last week was rather.... schizophrenic.... And rightly so!
We are hoping to set the scene for a creative chaos and inspire various disciplines to collide together. Not only this, it is expected that you will draw interests from the various fields and expertise showcased last week in our seminar "Sleep with me" and be inspired by it. By providing you with these multiple viewpoints we want to foster and encourage new thoughts and disruptive actions that are yet to exist. So go ahead, now, and produce a project questioning our needs and the egocentric design status quo.
In January you met with Special effect master Douglas Trumbull, Nobel Prize-winning economist Prof. Graciela Chichilnisky, transcendental meditation expert Rachel Katz at the Lynch Foundation and Hypnotherapist Alexandra Janelli. All of them brought a different context and meaning to the unconscious, sleep and the designed realities that surround us.
Following this, we have had an activity on rethinking our waking up routines, making use of hypnotherapy and Brecht' estrangement techniques; some of you developed some very unique performances making use of multiple mechanics, voice, drawings, props and much more.
